Job Description

Seeking a Medical Director in Park Slope, Brooklyn!

Animal Kind Veterinary Hospital is a companion animal practice in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. We are currently a 6+ doctor practice, and seeking a grow-oriented Medical Director. Our clientele is eager and able to do what’s best for their pet, with a steady client base that will quickly be established with a new doctor. We have a highly skilled support staff of over 25, with 9 licensed or license-eligible technicians. Multiple doctors are Fear-free certified and our technicians and assistants are embracing that, as well as cat-friendly handling.

As the Medical Director, you'll keep doing what you love - practicing veterinary medicine and seeing the furry faces that make your day. But you'll also provide vital medical leadership, oversee the veterinary team, ensure growth and quality, and cultivate an environment where exceptional pet care thrives. You'll develop medical protocols, mentor colleagues, and collaborate with the practice manager on finances, budgeting, and operational optimization.

What we offer:

  • Annual salary of $185,000 - $250,000, based on experience
  • Production and hospital growth based bonuses
  • Opportunity for ownership through Joint Venture Partnership program
  • Flexible schedules with no Sundays, no on-call, and no overnights!
  • Health insurance, including vision and dental benefits
  • 401k plus match
  • Paid annual dues/membership fees
  • VIN membership, Plumbs online

Hospital features:

  • Four-floor hospital with top floor dedicated to staff for breaks, phone calls, and doctor/management office space.
  • Six exam rooms
  • Fully stocked pharmacy/lab area with in house chemistry
  • Overflow cages/grooming area (groomer on staff)
  • Isolation ward
  • Treatment area with 2 wet/dry tables
  • Oxygen/ICO cages and incubator, with oxygen generated in house
  • Ultrasound and echo equipment
  • Dental suite area with digital dental radiographs, and experienced dental technicians to perform COHATs, charting, and full mouth dental radiographs on every dental procedure.
  • Separate cat and dog ward spaces
  • Antech lab referral and Avimark EMR
  • Potential for overnight stays with a licensed technician

Skills and Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in the field
  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university, plus active NY license
  • A commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine and upholding the veterinary code of ethics.
  • The ability to delegate responsibility and achieve results with hospital team members.
  • Capable of quality decision making.
  • The ability to coach, correct, develop, and motivate employees.
  • Demonstrates excellent time and task management.
  • Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation with staff and clients.

About our team:

Animal Kind has been a staple in our community for over 30 years. Our employees are long-tenured and work closely together towards the same goal: to provide the best preventative, medical, surgical, and dental care possible to our patients, while supporting the well-being of all staff members. We like to have fun at work when we can, by celebrating the holidays with bowling parties and potlucks, and throwing in the occasional ugly sweater competition.

We utilize a boarded surgeon for orthopedic or complicated soft tissue procedures on a non-emergent basis, and a visiting cardiologist who can be scheduled for echocardiograms. We have great relationships with the local specialty/emergency clinics both utilizing and referring to the specialist consultation services available, and refer when indicated.

We have doctor rounds daily to discuss cases, and extended meetings monthly, lunch and learn seminars, sharing pearls from CE and webinars, and discussing goals, strategies and protocols for the practice and staff.

About the area:

The Park Slope neighborhood is a lovely area, within walking distance of Prospect Park and the F train, with a bus stop in front of the practice. Parking and transportation subsidies are available - but many of our vets have lived within walking/biking distance of the clinic. We have tree-lined streets with lots of great stores and eateries - lots of options for lunch orders!
