Position Description MUST POSSESS A VALID UNRESTRICTED CLASS A CDL WITH A TANKER ENDORSEMENT WITH GOOD DRIVING HISTORY. Position Summary The Highway/Bridge Deck Groover & Grinder Operator is responsible for operating specialized Penhall equipment, including transverse deck groovers and PC 5000 grinders. This role involves extensive travel, equipment maintenance, and ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and DOT/IFTA/FMCSA requirements Essential Duties and Responsibilities Must be able to operate transverse bridge deck groover proficiently and with minimal supervision Strong mechanical abilities Must be able to interact with inspectors, DOT personnel, and engineers as needed Ability to communicate and interact with customers efficiently. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to complete all necessary daily paper work applicable to Penhall, DOT, FMCSA, and IFTA requirements. Able to work without continuous supervision. Able to lead and work with others. Willingness to travel for extended periods of time. Work all shifts, work extended hours, and work in extreme conditions. Safety Oriented Willing to work hard Dependable, reliable, and accountable Work as a team Career Oriented Willing to learn Mathematical aptitude helpful Computer skills a plus. Operate transverse bridge deck groovers and PC 5000 grinders with minimal supervision Set up and run CNC-style machinery; monitor, adjust, and maintain performance standards Ensure all equipment is inspected, maintained, and cleaned daily Complete and submit job-related paperwork including safety plans and DOT/IFTA/FMCSA logs Perform quality control inspections using measurement tools Coordinate and communicate effectively with supervisors, inspectors, DOT personnel, and clients Maintain safety compliance on all job sites and operate equipment responsibly Assist in troubleshooting and resolving equipment or programming issues Travel: Extensive travel and long hours are integral to the position Position Requirements Requirements: Pass a required pre-employment drug screen & random Pass a pre-employment background record (7 years) & periodical checks Must possess a valid unrestricted Class A CDL with a tanker endorsement and have a good driving history Transport and operate Penhall Company's specialized heavy equipment safely and efficiently Physical requirements include the ability to lift fifty pounds or more as needed, standing on concrete for long periods of time and the ability to climb or crawl on equipment and/or on the ground in order to work on the equipment. Working conditions include exposure to heat, cold and rain on a regular basis. You must be able to wear all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhere to all safety rules and regulations Interact with job site supervisors Responsibility of daily job related paperwork & Safety planning for the job Inspection, repair & general PM maintenance, and cleanliness of all company equipment Responsible for safe operation of equipment Must adhere to Penhall, DOT, FMCSA, and IFTA requirements and paperwork. Ability to work days/nights/weekends Must have reliable transportation Must have steel toe leather work boots Owning appropriate tools for the position. Mechanical aptitude and experience performing routine equipment maintenance Familiarity with DOT, FMCSA, IFTA regulations and compliance paperwork Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently and lead small teams when needed Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly Frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, and crawling on/around equipment Ability to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Position Instructions Penhall Company has been shaping the future of concrete services for over 65 years.
